We are now offering a worship service at 10:00 AM in addition to the service at 11:00 AM. The 10:00 AM service is called the Chapel Service because it is shorter, smaller, and simpler than the 11:00 AM service. The Chapel Service will feature the Lord’s Supper and the same sermon as the 11:00 AM. The congregational singing will be slight shorter and accompanied by only a piano or guitar. The service is held in a smaller room which is air conditioned.

DIG-taught by Greg Conn

Join us as we build community by digging into God's Word together to find out what's really in there and how to apply it to our lives and the church. We are currently discussing the end times.

God's Answers to Life's Difficult Questions—taught by Jon Dyke and Russell Kraft

A book by Rick Warren will be used as a guide to go to the Bible for answers to twelve of life's toughest questions. Drawing from the examples of different biblical characters who faced the same issues, you will find concise, practical insights you can understand and apply in order to move past hardships and experience a life of purpose and significance.

Bible Study in Tagalog This class is co-taught by several leaders.

The class is currently studying "Romans: For I will not be ashamed of the gospel of Christ." In addition, to discussion and laughter, praying for one another is an important part of each class meeting.

Unidos En Cristo

We meet on Sundays at 163 W, 97th Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues.

By Car Since people drive from some many different places the best way to get directions is to use an internet map/directions program or call the church office (212) 875-8621. We have an arrangement with a parking garage on W 97th St. (It is the first garage on the south side of W. 97th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam.) Green parking vouchers for four hours of free parking are available. If you park in the garage, be sure to stop by the Information Table before you leave to get your parking voucher.

By Subway Community Christian Church is conveniently located near the Broadway and 96th St. stop for the 1, 2, and 3, trains and the Central Park West and 96th St. stop for the C and B trains.

By Bus Buses run on both Columbus and Amsterdam avenues(M7 and M11). The M96 runs across town.

We rent the Alfred E. Smith Public School 163 for our Sunday morning services. It is located at 163 W. 97th St. which is between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues. Renting a school provides us with a lot of space for worship, classes, and activities at a modest price. Of course, we are not sponsored by NYC Board of Education.

OUR BELIEFS - What We Believe

We avoid elaborate written creeds because they tend to divide Christians from one another. Yet, people still want to know what we believe. In response to numerous inquiries, James Garfield, the country's eighteenth president and part of the Restoration Movement, described our beliefs this way. We Call ourselves Christians, or Disciples of Christ. We believe in God the Father. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and our Savior. We regard the divinity of Christ as the fundamental truth of the Christian system. We believe in the Holy Spirit, both as to his agency in conversion and as indwelling in the heart of the Christian. We accept both the Old Testament and the New Testament Scriptures as the inspired Word of God. We believe in the future punishment of the wicked and the future reward of the righteous. We believe that the deity is a prayer hearing and prayer answering God. We observe the institution of the Lord's Supper on the Lord's Day. To this table we neither invite nor bar; we say it is the Lord's Supper for all the Lord's children. We plead for the union of God's people on the Bible and the Bible alone. The Christ is our only Creed. We maintain that the ordinances should be observed as they were in the days of the Apostles.

Although written in the language of his day and not binding on anyone, President Garfield's statements give one an idea of what we believe. The simplicity of our beliefs can be bothersome to those who come from churches with highly developed theologies and creeds. However, others find it refreshing. I was once in a Bible study comprised of ministers from many denominations. It was interesting to study the Bible together, but one thing grieved me. During a discussion, one of the ministers said, "Well, that is what the Bible teaches, but my denomination teaches something different and I have to follow what my denomination teaches." How sad to be forced to choose between one's denomination and the Bible. At Community Christian Church, I don't have to make that choice. Our heritage urges us to follow the Bible no matter what has been our belief or practice in the past. The Bible is our only authority.
